We have accomplished so much within these past two days! :] Yesterday Lowell started his feedings, they started him out with pedialyte every 3 hours, and he did well with that so today they started him on my milk!! yay!! He is going to get so big and strong! Also as of today they switched his ventilator to the one that gives him breathes instead of just the vibrating movement. The nurses told me that if he does well with his new one that in the next few days he might get moved onto the nasal one & he wont have to have a tube down his throat! That will be such an awesome thing, cuz we will be able to FINALLY hear him cry! Mark & I can not wait for that moment to come, it will be so nice to hear our babies sound for the 1st time! I got to give him his 1st kiss on Monday, his skin is so soft, and precious! Mark gave him his 1st kiss like 2 weeks ago, but I had yet to give him a smooch. :] Gosh I love him so much!! Monday was the 1st day I actually tended to Lowell in many different ways at once, I got to suction out his mouth, take his temp and change his diaper, as well as give him his binkie! My gosh one thing he hates is a dirty diaper, he gets sooo upset! Its hard to not hold him to comfort him while he's silently crying.. in the mean time while changing his diaper, he seems so fragile, so its difficult to change him quickly. I'm starting to get more used to it, but it still feels new to me every time i do it. Well off to bed I am, I need some rest. I haven't been getting enough lately.

Hey! I finally got a blog started to keep everyone updated and to try and keep my self sane by getting advice from those who know best, the ones who have & are going through what I am. Lowell was born at 25 weeks & 4/7 days.. On May 1st, 2008 at 6:21pm weighing in at 1 lb 10 oz and 13 1/4 inches long. He, as of today, is 3 weeks & 3 days old. I can't help but get excited when I see him staying stable for a few days in a row, but it seems that every time this happens something "not so good" comes up and were placed right back where we started. Within the past week & 1/2 he got transfered to a different hospital for surgery and had an intestinal surgery to put a valve on his side to let the air our of his abdomen because he had a hole in his small intestines, but then that wasn't working as planed so they went in for a different surgery where they discovered he had 2 holes in his intestines so they cut out a portion of his small intestines and place a "bag" on his side, and then 2 days after that a surgery to close his PDA. In about 2 months he will have another intestinal surgery to put his intestines back together (he has to wait til hes 4 pounds), other than that we are keeping our prayers flowing that nothing too major will come up, but we know it could happen. I love the NICU staff here at UC Davis, but felt a lot closer connection when he was at Mercy San Juan.. I think its because I talked to at least 2 families a day when I would go in and see Lowell. UC Davis is just so big, and i rarely see the same families. On top of that its just really hard cuz we are 2 hours away from home which means we have to rely on friends and family to come down & see us for the most part cuz its very hard to leave our baby. We really have been blessed with donations from family members and help from organizations to help us pay for expenses while Lowell is in the hospital, we are staying in a hotel that is literally a building away from his hospital, we are so grateful!! It really helps us sleep a little bit better knowing he is as close as he possibly can be. Of course there are those 2 am hospital trips just to go spend some time with him cuz you can't sleep. Anyways, I am very excited that I've gotten some time to get this blog started, I'll keep the updates on baby Lowell posted as often as possible.
